The transformation of the Moll de Mestral has turned a previously uninteresting and unsafe space into an attractive hub open to citizens. The upper promenade has been renovated by restoring historical elements, while the building beneath has been rehabilitated to create the city’s 1st Blue Economy Hub.
The building now hosts new premises and multipurpose spaces such as Sala Mestral. Its facilities have been fully renovated and run through a service gallery, with the inclusion of a centralised thermal energy production system for air conditioning, which takes advantage of seawater for a more sustainable and efficient energy exchange.
A new pergola has also been built with a metal structure, featuring louvers made from PEFC-certified recycled pine wood shavings and integrated LED lighting, which enhances the space immediately below and adjacent, transforming it into a high-quality public area with shade, street furniture and vegetation. The redesigned space fosters interaction, leisure, and relaxation, supporting a wide range of activities—from strolling and resting to sports, exhibitions, and community events.
These interventions have revitalised Port Olímpic, improving its urban quality and consolidating it as a public landmark.
The Moll de Mestral is once again part of the city.
